Home/Residential
Residential services

Electrical work for the way you actually live.

From a flickering breaker to a full-home rewire, we handle residential electrical with the care that the rest of your house deserves. Code-correct work, transparent time-and-materials billing, and follow-up after the truck leaves.

Services we offer

Most residential work is billed time-and-materials with the hourly rate disclosed up front. For larger defined-scope projects (panel upgrades, EV charger installs, lighting design), a fixed-price quote may be available on request. If a permit is required, we pull it.

Service & panel upgrades

Older homes often run out of capacity long before they show it. We assess the existing service and upgrade to a modern, code-correct panel sized for the load you actually have today — and the load you'll have in a few years.

  • 100A → 200A service upgrades
  • Subpanel additions for shops & ADUs
  • Federal Pacific / Zinsco replacements
  • Permit pulled, inspection coordinated

EV charger installation

Level 2 chargers (typically 40–50A) installed and connected properly. We check your panel's available capacity first — if a service upgrade is needed to support the charger, we'll tell you before any work starts.

  • Hardwired and plug-in 240V circuits
  • Panel capacity assessment included
  • Tesla / J1772 / NACS — your choice
  • Garage and outdoor installs

Whole-home surge protection

A Type 2 surge protector at the panel is one of the cheapest pieces of insurance you can buy for a modern home. Northern Michigan storms don't politely take turns with your electronics — give them a single point to absorb the hit.

  • UL-listed Type 2 SPDs
  • Installed at the main panel
  • Often pairs with panel upgrades

Lighting design & install

Recessed lighting that sits flush, layout that respects sightlines, dimming that actually feels good. Inside or out, residential lighting is half craft and half taste — we'll spend the time on both.

  • Recessed & LED retrofit
  • Under-cabinet & toe-kick
  • Landscape & pathway lighting
  • Exterior & security lighting

Smart switches & controls

Lutron Caséta, Leviton, and other reliable smart-home systems installed and tuned. We focus on platforms that keep working in five years — not the kind that require a new app every winter.

  • Lutron Caséta installation
  • Smart dimmers & scene controls
  • Smart panels & energy monitoring
  • Network-friendly setup

Dedicated & specialty circuits

Kitchens with three appliances on one breaker, garage workshops fed off the basement lighting circuit, hot tubs that share with the dryer — we'll separate and size the loads correctly so things stop tripping at the worst times.

  • Kitchen, garage, and shop circuits
  • Hot tub & outdoor equipment
  • Heat pump / mini-split feeds
  • Generator & transfer switch

Troubleshooting & repairs

The light that flickers only at night. The breaker that trips when the dryer and microwave both run. The outlet that buzzes. We'll trace it, document what we find, and fix the root cause — not just the symptom.

  • Intermittent fault tracing
  • GFCI & AFCI nuisance trips
  • Outlet, switch, and fixture replacements
  • Safety inspections

Pre-purchase electrical inspections

Buying an older home? Before you sign, we'll walk the panel, the wiring methods, and the obvious problems — and give you a clear write-up of what's safe today and what'll need attention in the next five years.

  • Panel & service review
  • Sample circuit testing
  • Written report with photos

How a residential job goes

No mystery. Here's the shape of a typical job, from the first phone call to the moment we close the file.

Permits where required, code-correct work, neat install. We protect your floors, clean up after, and walk you through the work when we're done.

/04

Itemized invoice

Hours and materials shown clearly so you can see exactly what you're paying for. A short follow-up to make sure everything's working as expected.

How pricing works

Residential electrical at SAFElectric is billed time and materials. That means you pay for the hours we actually work and the parts we actually use — not a padded fixed price built to cover a contractor's risk on every job. Honest tradespeople tend to bill this way for a simple reason: customers usually pay less.

Before we start, you'll know:

Larger, well-defined projects (a full panel upgrade, a complete EV install, a lighting-design package) can be quoted as fixed-price on request. If you'd prefer that for a specific project, just say so when you reach out.

Site visits and consultations are free. We don't charge for showing up to look at the work, and we won't pressure you to decide on the spot.
